Safeguarding Policy
Sunday 25th June 2017

If your group has members under the age of 17 - it is important to have a Safeguarding Policy.

We attach a recent communication from Southend Theatres regading this, below is a link to their latest Safeguarding Policy In addition there is a link to Southend Choirs Safeguarding policy both for reference purposes.

From Southend Theatres

"We are writing to you with regard to changes in our current Safeguarding Policy.  This change relates to performances which include children and young people.  It is essential that this aspect of our programme is managed effectively, safely and in line with current legislation.  To this end we will be requesting that all organisers of such performances apply for and are granted a ‘Body of Persons Certificate’.  (Our understanding is applications should be submitted to the Council in which each child is resident but please take advice from your own local Council).
We appreciate this may present a challenge for those with shows in the imminent future.  Therefore between now and the end of this calendar year, we ask that if you are unable to secure a Body of Persons Certificate, you are able to demonstrate clearly the arrangements you have in place for safeguarding.  From January 2018, it will be a condition of hire that a Certificate is produced.
In addition to the above, and to assist in making each and every visit as successful and smooth running as possible, we wanted to confirm our back of house capacities.  When hiring the following spaces, the maximum number of people accommodated in the backstage areas are as follows:
Main auditorium only – 80
Dixon Studio only – 50
Main auditorium and Dixon Studio as additional BOH space – 150
